A Helping Hand

The Nanyang CCC Welfare and Education Fund was set up to provide various financial and social assistance schemes to our needy residents as well as bursaries and scholarships to students in our community. It provides assistance on top of other welfare schemes available from the Government, or co-funds such welfare schemes. The Welfare and Education Fund has been registered as a charity under the Charities Act.

The Welfare and Education Fund manages various financial assistance schemes aimed at helping the Nanyang community, including:

arrow .. Nanyang CCC-PCF Bursaries awarded to about 500 needy students each year, from Primary School up to Pre-University level. More than $55,000 was given out in bursaries in 2008.
..
arrow University Scholarships for deserving students admitted to the 1st year of tertiary studies in the local universities. In the year of 2008, a sum of $20,000 was awarded as scholarships to university undergraduates. As for the year of 2009, a total of 8 recipients was awarded the scholarship.
..
arrow Contributions to the national ComCare scheme, including donations to various schools within the Nanyang Division for the provision of textbooks, uniforms and other necessities for 300 needy students.
..
arrow Co-funding of the national Edusave scheme, which rewards students who perform well or make good progress in their work, and provides students and schools with funds to pay for enrichment programmes or to purchase additional resources.
..
arrow Kindergarten Financial Assistance Scheme, which provides a substantial subsidy in fees for kindergarten students and start up grants for these students.
..
arrow Red/Green Packets for needy senior residents during the Chinese New Year or Ramadan.
..
arrow School Pocket Money Fund, in which a total of $30,000 is given out to the schools in Nanyang every year, for use by the schools in assisting needy students of the schools. Through this, we hope to motivate needy students to study hard, to achieve a higher education and for the family to break the poverty cycle.

If you require social or financial assistance, you can approach the staff at the Community Club, the Residents' Committees, or the Neighbourhood Committees. They will interview you, assess your eligibility and direct you to the appropriate assistance.

You can also seek assistance directly from the South West Community Development Council (SWCDC), which administers various government programs covering social support, job assistance or financial assistance for residents of the South West district. Details of the assistance schemes managed by the SWCDC can be found here.
