Nanyang is a residential enclave situated in the western part of Singapore. Located at Jurong West near to the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), it comprises 155 Housing and Development Board (HDB) blocks with mainly four-room and five-room flats, the Floravale condominium and private houses at Yunnan Garden and Westwood. "Nanyang", in Mandarin, literally means "Southern Ocean", and is a name commonly associated with the migrant Chinese population in South East Asia. However, consistent with Singapore's multi-racial society, Nanyang is home to a diverse mix of major races.
Amenities abound in Nanyang, with a town centre where a wide selection of retail outlets can be found, together with places of religious worship, several schools and institutions of higher learning. The area also boasts the Jurong West Sports and Recreation Centre, Singapore's newest and largest integrated sports complex, which sports facilities include an Aquatic Centre with a sheltered competition pool.
Recreation also can be found at the Nanyang Community Club, which offers a wide range of courses and facilities to serve the community. Nature lovers have access to neighbourhood parks, and Nanyang's own Community Gardens (a vegetable garden and a herbal garden) maintained by Residents' Committee grassroots leaders and resident volunteers.
